President’s Message

As I sit here at my desk authoring this article outside it is sunshine and 75 degrees! I’m asking myself what the heck am I doing inside?? O ’well so much for the whining.

I recently returned from the DKV Annual Meeting in Dipperz, Germany. During the meeting, the DKV elections took place which marked the changing of the guard. Michael Hammerer, DKV President, a member of the Präsident for 27 years, and a staunch supporter of the DK clubs in North America, choose not to seek re-election. Michael was honored by the membership in attendance, including the individual Club Presidents. To say Michael’s leadership and support of North America will be missed is an understatement. Michael, Thank You for your years of service and leadership.

Replacing Michael as DKV President is Rudy Fisch. Rudy, also the President of Klub Niederbayern, has pledged his support of the North American clubs, and we look forward to his leadership and cooperation. Vice-President is Bernd Sakowski, who also serves as the President of Klub Westfalen. Bernd is a staunch supporter of the North American clubs. During my trip to the DKV Annual Meeting I apprenticed at a Derby hosted by Klub Westfalen, in which Bernd ran a nice young Rüde.

We have been in communication with the other North American club Presidents to discuss our challenges and strengthen our position when asking for changes or assistance from the DKV. I am encouraged that this collaboration will be fruitful, and we can work together for the good of the DKs in North America.

The DKGNA Annual Meeting will take place May 16th – 18th, in Hailey, ID. Later in this publication there is information regarding registration, itinerary, meals, and lodging. Please try to attend the Annual Meeting, Derby & Zuchtschau, and Banquet.
